Fluoride, found in water, toothpaste and mouthwash, is a mineral that's incorporated into the teeth’s structure, making them stronger and more resistant to decay. It helps young children develop strong, cavity-resistant permanent teeth, and can even reverse decay.
If you're at moderate to high risk for dental caries, you may benefit from a professional fluoride treatment. This inexpensive and painless treatment takes just a few minutes. Dr. Morrison will apply a fluoride solution to your teeth which you'll keep on for several minutes. For children, the fluoride is usually flavored so it even tastes good. The fluoride used is a much stronger concentration than can be found in toothpastes and mouth rinses that you may purchase at the store. Depending on your oral health status, Dr. Morrison may recommend additional fluoride treatments, along with added preventive measures such as the use of over-the-counter or prescription fluoride mouth rinses.
