We all hope to hear "no cavities" at our regular dental check up - but that's not always the case. Most of us (95 percent!) eventually developing cavities in the pits and grooves of our teeth. The good news is that we no longer need to have cavities treated with unsightly metal fillings. Advances in modern dental materials and techniques provide new ways to create more pleasing, natural-looking smiles. In many cases, Dr. Morrison can use tooth-colored composite fillings, made from a super-strong blend of resins that bond to your teeth to fill cavities and correct mild imperfections.
Composite fillings are usually placed in one appointment. While the tooth is numb, Dr. Morrison will remove the decay. The space will then be thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared before the new filling is placed. If the decay was near the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied for added protection. The composite filling will then be precisely placed, shaped, and polished, restoring your tooth to its original shape and function.
Of course, our primary goal at Jeff M. Morrison & Associates DDS is preventing cavities from occurring. Read Dr. Morrison's blog post The Most Common Places You Get Cavities to refine your brushing and flossing, and don't forget to schedule regular dental cleanings and exams.
